Launching of Airlines Tonga's Vava'u to Nadi route dubbed as a win-win situation PDF Print E-mail

The Chief Executive Officer of Airlines Tonga Limited, Malakai Nawai has said the opening of the new route between Vava'u and Nadi would be a win win situation for Tonga and Fiji.

Pacnews reports that Mr. Nawai made the remarks at the launch of the inaugural Air Tongan Airlines route between Vava'u and Nadi, on Friday at Puataukanave Hotel, Neiafu.

Her Royal Highness Princess Latufuipeka Tuku’aho told the same gathering that the new route will boost transport links in the kingdom.

Speaking at the launch of the Airlines Tonga/Air Fiji inaugural flight, Princess Latufuipeka said the occasion was another milestone in addressing the much needed domestic air services in Tonga.

Her Royal Highness said this is a testimony for the people of Tonga, particularly Vava’u of the firm commitment by Airlines Tonga Air Fiji Limited to efficiently and effectively respond to the transport need of the kingdom.

Princess Lautuipeka said the economies of the two nations stand to benefits from these new routes.

She said this has been a dream of the people of Vava’u and also Tonga as a whole, and they are hopeful that from the services of Airline Tonga, Vava’u will become an accessible tourism destination world wide.

She also called on every one to capitalise on this opportunity and promote Vava’u as a tourist heaven in all aspects like clean beaches, well maintained resorts and tourists attraction.

The Honourable Minister of Civil Aviation, Paul Karalus said the flight provides a direct link between the two major tourist destinations.

A government delegation from Fiji was represented by Interim Civil Aviation Minister Manu Korovulavula and Tourism Minister Bernadette Rounds Ganilau as well as former Transport Minister Adi Koila Nailatikau.

The Government of Tuvalu and China who are the major shareholders in the joint venture were represented by their high commissioners and ambassadors at the launch.
